RFID Journal, the world's leading media and events company covering radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, announced the winners of the 3rd annual RFID Journal Awards. The winners honored at RFID Journal LIVE! 2009 are:

• Best RFID Implementation: Charles Vögele Group
• Best Use of RFID in a Product or Service: Vail Resorts
• Most Innovative Use of RFID: FOCUS Magazine
• Best in Show: ODIN technologies

"Each year, the competition for the award become greater as more companies deploy the technology and more vendors develop solutions that deliver value," said Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. "The winners this year should be very proud of their accomplishments, and we are very proud to have them participate in the world greatest RFID event."

Switzerland's Charles Vögele Group won for its deployment of RFID to track unique items of apparel from the point of manufacturing to the point of sale. The company is achieving benefits at each point in its supply chain.

Vail Resorts of the United States won Best Use of RFID in a Product or Service for its use of RFID technology to enhance the experience of skiers at its resorts. Vail is using data provided by RFID to improve its customer relationship management.

Germany's FOCUS Magazine won Most Innovative Use of RFID for devising a way of tagging magazine pages so that it could collect data on subscribers reading habits. This information proves the value of print advertising to its advertising customers.

ODIN technologies, a leading systems integrator, based in Ashburn, Va., won for the self-inventorying Smart Container. The self-contained RFID portal can be deployed inside any standard ISO standard shipping container in under a minute and transmit inventory information via Wi-Fi, cellular or satellite communications.

The end user winners were chosen by a panel of 22 independent judges. At least five judges awarded points based on criteria established by RFID Journal (for a full list of judges visit rfidjournalawards.com). The main criteria for the awards given to end users was did the deployment break new ground and did it deliver benefits to the company.

The Best in Show award, presented each year to the best new product exhibited at RFID Journal LIVE!, was chosen based on not just whether it was an advanced on existing products but also on its potential to deliver benefits to companies using it.

"Several of the judges told me they had a great deal of difficulty choosing the top three entries in each category," said Roberti. "There was less unanimity among the judges this year, so it shows that many companies are moving beyond simple asset tracking applications and are deploying the technology in ways that deliver significant benefits."
