Spring 20005/06 also sees the launch of Ruby's first time outerwear collection comprised of a few key summer pieces in response to the traditional 3 leopards print manufactured by show sponsor.
Da Gama Textiles. Outerwear shapes are voluminous, mixed with lurex metallic fabrics and vintage inspired. Traditional African shweswhe prints merge with modern glamour thus creating a new glamorous aesthetic. Printed shweshwe fabric has been customized through the use of beading and quilting and Da Gama natural cotton fabrics have been embroidered with oriental birds in this niche range of outerwear and bags.

SA Fashion Week was born out of a need to showcase the abundance of fashion talent that was going unnoticed in South Africa. Last year SAFW was significant for two reasons: firstly, SA fashion design came of age and, secondly, SA business saw for the first time a viable industry developing.
