“KDS Accessories has done that through its global office in London but not every company may have the strength and resources to do this, although they maybe able to offer similar quality of products.

“Had there been a specific internationally acceptable set of standards and a competent authority to measure them for the industry, the companies could comply with and would probably create an equal playing turf in the industry for both local and global companies”, he informed by saying.

When quizzed about the current and future growth of the Bangladeshi accessory sector, he said, “With China anxious to climb the manufacturing value-chain, Bangladesh is expected to be direct beneficiary of it. There are not many countries, technically and volume wise geared, to replace volumes from China.

“Bangladesh can safely rely on its labour force cost, not increasing sharply in the near future. It is therefore safe to assume, that we will remain competitive. This is manifested by the recent influx of orders and the phenomenon is expected to continue in the near future. I expect the industry to be bullish for a reasonable period of time. I can safely see no problems in the next five years”, he observed.

Revealing future plans of KDS Accessories, he informed, “We at KDS have budgeted for an aggressive 45 percent revenue growth for 2011, over 2010. However, we expect an average growth in revenue of around 25 percent over the next 5 years. The Bangladeshi accessory industry is also expected to grow in double digits.

“KDS is undergoing significant investment rollouts in both front-end network developments globally and capacity and range enhancement. We are awaiting the launch of our brand new state of the art swing trims facility from May 2011.

“We are noticing a trend of more retailers being interested to work with companies in Bangladesh who are able to meet global standards. A positive trend is that many retailers are also delegating some of such decisions to their regional offices in India, Hong Kong, Singapore etc. Some are even doing the same out their Bangladesh office.

“This is the right direction for the retailers in my opinion. I believe this trend will only increase as it adds value to the retailers' business by creating a more competitive and open business environment', he wrapped up this very interesting conversation by saying.
