Valentino has developed an action plan in collaboration with national unions to mitigate the losses it suffered earlier this month when the entire Valentino Shoes Lab (VSL) and an estimated 38,000 pairs of shoes were destroyed in a devastating fire at the luxury brand's high-end manufacturing plant at Bucine near the town of Arezzo in Italy.

Another Valentino factory at Montelupo Fiorentino in nearby Florence will facilitate double shifts, while other workers will resume operations at a closeby factory in the Tuscany region made available to Valentino by another Italian luxury brand, Prada.

Investigations into the incident are on, but no casualties were reported as the manufacturing facility was empty when the fire broke out during the night of April 1-2. The VSL unit produced 1,300 pairs of handcrafted shoes daily, including the brand’s signature Rockstuds, and employed 160 workers. The loss of equipment, product and property is reported to run into millions of euros.

“I’m touched and moved by the solidarity that was formed within our company, and not only, as an immediate consequence after the devastating fire which has destroyed one of our manufacturing excellences,” said Jacopo Venturini, CEO of Valentino.

“The swiftness with which we were able to develop an effective plan of action is an evident consequence of the love that the Valentino employees nurture for our company. Our ambition is to return to produce and manufacture more or less at the same pace that we sustained before the incident, starting next month. This objective has become possible due to various initiatives which, implemented together, will allow us to regularly produce a good part of the seasonal orders.”
