"On behalf of TEA and ITF, our sincere thanks to the Union textiles minister and Union commerce minister for allowing fashion cloth masks (non-surgical and non-medical) exports. This will help the sector to explore the immediate potential and also India can establish a space in this big potential and need of the hour product," TEA president Raja Shanmugam and ITF convenor Prabhu Dhamodharan said in a joint press not.
"We represented with data about the enquiries and business potential in exports with both ministries and these kind of immediate actions from the policymakers will definitely help the industry in revival," Shanmugam and Dhamodharan added.
They urged all the manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu to focus on new and unique designs to make good functional and fashionable masks to capitalise the new fashion business potential in the masks' exports.
However, all other types of masks falling under any ITCHS code would continue to remain prohibited for exports, the DGFT notification said.
