The COSATU-affiliated Southern African Clothing & Textile Workers’ Union (SACTWU) commences a rigorous Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training course for thirty seven (37) senior shop stewards from the union’s KwaZulu-Natal Region, on 1 July 2013. Participants consist of all the unions’ KZN Regional and Branch Office Bearers.

The program is will be run in partnership with the Durban Institute of Technology (DUT). It is part of SACTWU’s eUnionism program, which requires the union to build capacity to modernise our organisation.

This includes strengthening the use of information and communication technology in all areas of our trade union work. The main purpose is to equip our worker leadership properly, in order to help render better service delivery to the union’s 85 000 members nationally as well as to play a more active role in the development of sustainable growth in the clothing, textile and leather sectors.

A similar programme will commence in the Western Cape for thirty eight (38) senior shop stewards on 8 July 2013, in partnership with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). It will thereafter then be rolled out to other parts of the country.
