Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (Vitas) Congress for 2007-10 was organized last Saturday in Ha Noi and was attended by President Nguyen Minh Triet.
Top executives from the Ministry of Industry, the General Conferation of Labour and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry were also present, here.
Delegates elected a new executive board and re-elected Le Quoc An as President of the Vitas.
Sources revealed that the industry had targeted a growth rate of 20 percent per year through 2010 and an increase in added value of products from 30 to 50 percent.
Making a speech during the event Triet applauded the garment industry's efforts and rapid development not only domestically but also internationally.
President stressed, “The industry has considerably contributed to national poverty reduction by providing so many jobs to those that needed them."
However, he suggested that apparel sector should concentrate on reaching international standards by adopting advanced technology. He said that focus should also be on proper and structured management and human resources development.
