Lauretta Roberts, editor of the UK's leading weekly fashion business title, Drapers will open the afternoon session with a frank assessment of the UK high street. She will consider which outlets and brands are weathering the credit crunch 'best' and how high street names are performing vis-à-vis the on-line fashion alternatives.

Abi Rushton, ethical and sustainable sourcing manager for clothing, Tesco Stores, will share its current global sourcing strategy and explain how it balances the price/product and carbon/compliance equation. Also addressing supply-chain efficiencies Mike Danby, managing director, Advanced and Sarah Humphrey, general manager retail development at Kuehne & Nagel will do a joint presentation on strategies to minimise both logistics costs and carbon output.

Michael Kininmonth, business development manager for Lenzing Fibres will then reveal the latest innovations in sustainable fibre production while Andy Formosa of the Textile Care Company will take a controversial look at the 'clean it or chuck it' fashion mentality and tackle the confusing world of 'care labelling'.

The cost of the one-day conference is £195 +VAT for ASBCI members and £255 +VAT for non-members. Details of the ASBCI Industry Dinner that follows the conference will be issued shortly. A full conference programme is attached.

Formed in 1992 the ASBCI is widely regarded as the most active and diverse clothing industry forum. Its annual industry conference and dinner is regarded at the conference for suppliers throughout the UK clothing supply chain. In addition the association holds regular committee and technical meetings and annually produces several highly acclaimed technical handbooks.

It has also formed reciprocal partnerships with the Textile Institute, Society of Dyers and Colourists, SDC, and the United Kingdom Textile Laboratory Forum, UKTLF, to promote greater technical understanding of essential processes within the clothing supply chain.

As part of its role as industry watchdog the ASBCI informs and advises members of new European standards and has liaised with government bodies to create and implement a nationwide technical training programme for the clothing and allied industries.
