Steep rises in raw materials and other factors have fuelled prices of garments in the global market. The average price of Turkiye’s exports of woven sportswear jumped by around 51 per cent in the last six years. The average price of the shipment reached $8.43 per unit in the first four months of this year. It was reported at $5.57 per unit in 2019, that is, before the pandemic.

According to Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool TexPro, the average export price of woven sportswear increased by 6.64 per cent to reach $5.94 per unit in 2020. It further rose by 9.59 per cent to $6.51 per unit in 2021. It is important to note that there was no decrease in the average unit price after COVID-related disruptions.

In 2022, it further inched up by 2.76 per cent to $6.69 per unit. Turkiye exported the garment at a much higher average price of $7.55 per unit in 2023. During January-April 2024, it again rose to $8.43 per unit. The average price has seen a consistent rise for exports from Turkiye despite lukewarm demand in 2023 and 2024.

According to TexPro, the country exported 2.444 million units of woven sportswear during the first four months of this year, valued at $20.596 million. It had exported 5.576 million units valued at $42.126 million in the previous year. Earlier, the shipment was noted as 6.062 million units (value $40.567 million) in 2022, 4.396 million units ($28.630 million) in 2021, 3.686 million units ($21.907 million) in 2020, and 4.104 million units ($22.853 million) in 2019.

It is interesting to see that the shipments from Turkiye did not suffer much during the pandemic years. They slightly eased in 2020 but bounced back in 2021. They further gained in 2022 and 2023. Current year’s exports also indicate momentum, showing that consumers are more health conscious and prefer to buy sportswear.
