Category-wise, knitwear exports rose 13.50 per cent to $11.493 billion in the first eight months of fiscal 2018-19, as against exports of $10.125 billion during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, as per the data.
Likewise, exports of woven apparel increased 14.84 per cent to $11.633 billion during the period under review, compared to exports of $10.130 billion during July-February 2017-18.
Woven and knitted apparel and clothing accessories’ exports together accounted for 83 per cent of $27.562 billion worth of total exports made by Bangladesh during the July-February period.
In the last fiscal ending June 30, 2018, garment exports from Bangladesh crossed the $30-billion mark and surpassed the target by 1.51 per cent. For the current fiscal, the Government of Bangladesh has set readymade garments export target at $32.689 billion. (PC)
