Dutch firm Neffa is currently focussing on MycoTEX, a sustainable fabric created from mycelium, the roots of mushrooms, and is using 3D-modelling to create seamless perfect-fit garments from this new textile without the need to cut and sew, according to company founder Aniela Hoitink, who believes this textile can disrupt the fashion industry.

The company’s shorter supply chain eliminates the need for chemicals and pesticides. It reduces water usage by 99.5 per cent and local production reduces transport. It only grows what it needs and has no textile waste during the production phase, Hoitink told Fibre2Fashion in an interview.

After wearing it multiple times, one can simply bury the garment in the ground, and it will naturally decompose, she added. (DS)
