The total value of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) in the Indian e-commerce industry was $2.1 billion last year, according to a latest report. Altogether there were 21 deals in 2017 compared to 18 in the previous year. However, the value of transactions was little higher in 2016 at $2.224 billion. In the first four months of 2018, six M&As have taken place.

The value of deals in January-April 2018 is $226 million, according to data from the global audit and advisory firm Grant Thornton.

The data has been released at a time when the Indian e-commerce industry is likely to witness its largest ever deal between the US retail giant Walmart and the largest Indian e-commerce player Flipkart.

Morgan Stanley estimates the Indian e-commerce retail market to grow to $200 billion by 2026. (RKS)
