Logwood Apparel Co., Ltd. has received a nod from the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) to construct a garment factory in Kandal Stung district of Kandal province. The company will invest $2.7 million to produce clothing and facemasks. The new project will create 814 employment opportunities for local people, the CDC said in a statement.

The investment by Logwood Apparel comes after Cambodia lost its Everything But Arms (EBA) status with the European Union last month.

The Cambodian government recently decided to raise the minimum wage for garment and footwear industry workers by $2 to $192 per month, effective from January 1, 2021. This is the smallest wage increase since the wage went unchanged from 2010 to 2013.

The minimum wage affects about 800,000 workers from more than 1,000 factories in the textile, garment and footwear industries.
