New Balance Athletics to open 6th US factory in Methuen

US footwear firm New Balance Athletics is moving forward with plans to open its sixth factory in Methuen, Massachusetts, in 2020. The factory will be the company’s first new manufacturing plant in two decades. The project is supported by the Economic Assistance Coordinating Council of Massachusetts, which has just approved $900,000 in state tax credits.

The $33-million ‘Factory of the Future’ will create 60 jobs in the 80,000 square foot facility, focusing on testing advanced manufacturing techniques, 3-D printing and research and development, according to a blog post on the New England Council website.

New England is a north-eastern US region comprising the states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Brighton-headquartered New Balance has formidable operations in the New England region of the United States:iIts 1,300 manufacturing workers are spread in three plants in Maine, as well as one in Brighton and one in Lawrence, not far from the Methuen site. (DS)
