Bangladesh garment exports to Germany surge

Bangladesh's export of readymade garments (RMG) to Germany jumped 27 percent year-on-year, during the initial seven months of the current fiscal that began on July 1, 2011.
As per the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) figures, Bangladesh exported apparels worth Tk 37.83 billion during the July-January 2011-12 period, as against the exports of Tk 29.79 billion achieved during the same period of previous fiscal.
The value of Bangladesh apparel exports to Germany is the highest among the 26 EU nations. The garment exports to Germany have been rising because the country has largely remained unaffected by the ongoing debt crisis in several EU countries.
Moreover, according to experts, some German buyers have shifted their purchase of garment items from China to Bangladesh due to lower price and good quality.
Bangladesh RMG exports to EU countries were worth US$ 7.1 billion in fiscal year 2009-10, which grew to US$ 10.5 billion in 2010-11.
