Zhejiang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (ZIQ) has announced that it has found four batches of sub-standard clothing in Hangzhou area, while inspecting imported clothing for environmental indicators in January and February this year.

According to ZIQ, 584 pieces of clothing, valued at € 23,659.88, failed to meet the national standards and the importer has been asked to either return the apparel pieces or destroy the same.

Machine woven cotton trousers and T-shirts for men imported from Italy and knitted silk T-shirts for women imported from Spain were found to have color fastness in the range of 2-3, compared to the necessary color fastness of equal to or greater than 3 under the Safety Technical Code of National Textile Products.

Similarly men’s woven trousers imported from Italy were detected to have Ph value of 9.4, against the standard requirement of Ph value between 4 and 8.5, ZIQ said.

In 2012, more than 13 percent of imported clothing failed to meet the quality standards in Hangzhou area.

ZIQ is a comprehensive inspection and quarantine authority that performs the duties of enforcing laws and regulations, mainly including the Law of the People's Republic of China on Import and Export Commodity Inspection.
