Banana Republic to open two stores in Japan

Apparel retailer Gap Inc announced it will open two Banana Republic store locations in Tokyo and Kobe this spring.

With these new store locations, Banana Republic will have a total of six store locations in Japan.

The Banana Republic offerings, scheduled to open in March, are located in two of the most prominent shopping areas in Tokyo and Kobe: Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C., which is scheduled to open March 8 in Tokyo, and The Forty Fifth, which is scheduled to open March 11 in Kobe.

"They are pleased to open their first Banana Republic store in Kobe, and continue expanding their presence in Tokyo," said Kentaro Odagiri, Vice President & Managing Director of Banana Republic Japan.

"Tamagawa Takashimaya is located in one of the most prestigious residential neighborhoods in Tokyo and Kobe's Kyoryuchi district is historically known as a destination for imported fashion and culture.

These locations are ideal for Banana Republic, as they are among the best shopping areas in Japan for consumers seeking the high-quality, affordable luxury Banana Republic offers."

Banana Republic opened four store locations in Japan in September 2005, its first store locations outside North America.

Banana Republic currently operates in Tokyo at Printemps Ginza, Roppongi Hills and Nihonbashi Credo; and in Yokohama at Yokohama Landmark.

Banana Republic, which currently has nearly 500 stores and annual sales of more than $2 billion in North America, is known for offering modern interpretations of classic fashion for women and men through elevated design and luxurious fabrications at affordable prices.

Gap Inc is a leading international specialty retailer offering clothing, accessories and personal care products for men, women, children and babies under the Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Forth & Towne brand names.

Fiscal 2004 sales were $16.3 billion.

Gap Inc operates about 3,000 stores in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France and Japan.
