Apart from Adani and V-Mart, the gateway city of Saurashtra, Rajkot has only a few departmental stores; a few mini-markets in the retail space of the city, as entry of other giants is awaited, eagerly.
Traditionally operated mini-markets, in the city are although not apprehensive of big business competition as they have loyal base of customers who are offered value addition on the products. Rajkot has six to eight such outlets mainly comprising mini-markets or departmental stores that have come to be regarded as super-markets.
Jivan Patel, of Riddhi-Siddhi super market, informed that bulk of the product displayed in their super-market are produced by family members residing in nearby villages, who cultivate, harvest and mostly handpicked stuff.
Having loyal customer base comprising families who have been purchasing their requirements for the past several years, the owners are not concerned of the arriving big malls.
Many a times, they accept and deliver customized orders for storing food-grains, pickles for the entire year, getting spices grinned, above all offering undiluted attention to executing the orders, processing quickly, assuring good quality and value for their money, he added.
Hence, the chain managing system and loyal customer base that they have cannot be easily distracted from them by upcoming big malls, although they can offer discounts, guarantee and quality on bulk purchases, yet, cannot afford customized services offered by small-time operators, viewed Patel.
