Jewelry, perfume, rented tuxedos and costumes are some of the items that remain taxable.
County officials are concerned about other stores who may not know the ins and outs of the exemption.
Baxter said, initially he could not grasp it as it included most supplies for clothing repairs, such as yarn, buttons, hooks and zippers.
In order to help and clarify exemptions, the two county officials plan to mail letters to the area's merchant associations, Baxter said.
Joe Fragnoli, owner of Super Casuals on Seneca Avenue in Geneva, said little was done by the state to encourage the exemptions, even though it was easy for his clothing store to change to the new system.
“A little leeway would have been nice, there was really not much discussion until the day after it happened,” Fragnoli recalled.
