In the first three months 2006, Vietnam imported a $583.5 million worth of fabric for domestic garment production. This was an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year.
For March alone, the turnover reached $255.6 million, 47.9 percent higher than February 2006 and rose 32.8 percent from same period 2005.
China is the biggest fabric supplier of Vietnam, gained the highest growth rate among the others.
Import price marketed in March saw slight hike due to increase in price of world raw materials.
Fabric of 100 percent cotton price supplied by Chinese dealers fluctuates at $0.9-1.13 per metre, and at $1.17 per metre.
Price of 100 percent polyester fabric is at average $0.91-0.95/metre.
Taiwan's nylon fabric exported to Vietnam rose 21 percent in the period, quoted at $1.65 per yard.
