Gokaldas Exports sets up new production facility at apparel park

Gokaldas Exports Ltd, India's largest manufacturer of readymade fashion garments, today announced setting up of a new production facility in Nacharam Mini Apparel Park, Hyderabad. The facility will be spread over 9 acres and will have manufacturing capacity of over 10 lakh garments annually. Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, laid the foundation stone for the new facility with the capacity to produce over one million garments annually. Total investments in the plant is estimated at Rs. 25 crores. The facility will house about 2000 machines. It will provide employment to approx 2500 workers directly and 2000 indirectly. The plant is expected to be operational by late 2007. Gokaldas will produce outerwear, which earns good margins and bottomwear which has been the revenue earner of the company since inception. The Hyderabad facility is a part of the large-scale expansion plan of Gokaldas Exports of growing from the current 24 mn garments annually to 26 mn in 2007 and 30 mn in 2008. The support of the Andhra Pradesh government and the availability of cheap and skilled labor in Hyderabad have been the prime reasons for Gokaldas to put up a facility here. “As we enter the new and more aggressive growth phase it becomes imperative for us to scale up our production capacity and we were looking at multiple locations for setting up our new units." said Mr. Rajendra Hinduja, Director, Gokaldas Exports. "The pro-activeness of the Andhra Government and its industry-friendly measures clinched the decision in favor of Hyderabad. We look forward to the new facility coming on stream and the role it would play in powering our growth in the future.” he added. The new facility will cater to brands like Nike, Pierre Cardin, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger, Reebok, Banana Republic, Abercrombie and Fitch, Spykar, of the US and European markets.
