In the first eight months 2007, Vietnam continued to enjoy strong growth in exports of textile and footwear industry. Textile, which is overcoming difficulties in the US market, became the biggest currency earning industry of Vietnam.
During the eight-month period, the garment and textiles fetched US $5.084 billion exports turnover, posting year-on-year rise of 30 percent.
The figures of August represent a turnover of $844 million, largely due to recovery at the US market. So far, the US top of Vietnam's exporting market, worth $3 billion, accounting for 60 percent of Vietnam's whole textile and garment exports in the period.
In the same line with the textile and garment, footwear industry earned $2.72 billion in January-August period this year. In August alone shoes fetched $36 million, taking the third place among Vietnam's top currency earning industry.
