TEA laments on measures of department of labour

16 Jun '08
3 min read

The export garment business is seasonal one, and therefore it may not be possible for the units to recruit and keep more workers when the business is at peak and remove them during the business is at low.

To overcome such problems, the garment units are giving overtime to worker to make our shipment in a right time.

Considering the nature of Tirupur Export business, the Government may give exemption liberally to Tirupur garment units for providing overtime to workers since workers are interested. We have also taken up the issue with the Central Government for 60 hours work per week.

We request you to kindly advise the Department of Labour to drop the actions leveled against the Managing Directors and also Managers of the units.

Alternatively Managing Directors may be released from the action and Managers be levied a small fine and proceedings be dropped thereafter.
