Mr. Dawood Usman Jakhura, Zonal Chairman, Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in a press statement welcomed the recently announced Textile Policy 2009-14 as a comprehensive document covering all sub sectors of textile industry.

Our long standing demand of paying special attention to value-added garment sector has been taken up by the government in this policy, he said.

He appreciated the government for providing vitally needed relief to the textile sector by announcing the following key measures:

- Proposed drawback scheme by which processed fabric exports will get 1% of the FOB value, home textiles 2% and garments exports 3% of the FOB value. In addition, exporters achieving an increase of 15% in exports will be given 1% additional draw-back.

- Full refund of past R&D Claims

- The availability of export refinance at 5%.

- Priority in gas and electricity load management.

- Relief on existing long term loans.

- Zero rating of exports.

- Tax free import of machinery.

This is our initial reaction as the policy was only announced, we will be in a position to give a detailed review only after studying the complete policy, he said.
