A new tenant survey conducted by The Fashion Center Business Improvement District, (BID) shows that the neighborhood is home to a record number of designers 610 and 49,382 overall employees, the highest number reported since the survey was first conducted 13 years ago.

The number of reported designers in the Fashion Center is at an all-time high, breaking 2006's record of 602. New designers include House of Deréon, founded by Tina Knowles, mother and stylist of pop star Beyoncé; the Gary Graham Collection, Vigoss Fashion, Bear USA and Level 99 Premium Denim.

The district continues to draw new talent, especially in the garment/apparel industry. In this sector, 107 tenants were added, marking a new high of 1,787 tenants employing 19,415 people, just 36 people shy of the record set in 2004.

“New York City continues to be the fashion capital of the world,” said Barbara Blair Randall, Executive Director of the Fashion Center BID. “The record-breaking number of designers and employees reported are evidence that the Fashion Center is one of the most sought after neighborhoods for fashion-related industries.

We are optimistic that these numbers will rise as we continue to beautify and promote the district as a gateway to New York City and a vibrant location for designers, showrooms and other fashion-related tenants.”

The number of reported sales reps ties a 2005 high of 171, with a workforce of 781 employees, reflecting the importance offashion designer representation in New York City.
