Handicraft exports this year, as against corresponding period last year, have gone down by 10.11 percent. As per the Federation of Handicraft Association of Nepal (FHAN) statistics, where exports of textile products have declined by 17.29 percent, a fall of 0.32 percent has been recorded in the exports of non-textile products.
The 11-month statistics reveal that, from all the handicraft products exported, a majority of them revealed declining trend, but a slight increase was recorded in the exports of felt products, silver jewellery, ceramics products, handmade paper products, born and horn products, and incense for the period.
According to FHAN, the total volume of textile products exported last year, stood at Rs 1.557 billion, whereas for the corresponding period this year, it came to Rs 1.288 billion. On the same lines, exports of non-textile products worth Rs 1.144 billion for the 11-month period last year, was recorded at Rs 1.140 billion for the same period this year.
If political stability persists and industrial policy gets implemented, then there are bright chances that, handicraft sector could once again boom with additional orders flowing from the side of importers in the new season approaching in July-August, informed FHAN.
For the 11-month statistics, FHAN stated that, the handicraft goods export, which at the start of the period stood at Rs 2.701 billion, has now remained only worth Rs 2.482 billion. While exports of handicraft products, holds a 17.07 percent share in total exports, has declined by 34.47 percent.
Exports of woollen products forming 14.08 percent share of total exports, declined by 11.91 percent. Exports of Dhaka products too, with 0.06 percent share in total exports, decreased by 44.32 percent. However, handmade paper products with 9.75 percent contribution, depicted a minimal rise of 1.59 percent, as revealed by FHAN's comparative analysis for the 11-month duration this year.
