Sumeet Nair new Executive Director of FDCI

The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) the apex body of the fashion industry announced the appointment of Sumeet Nair as its Executive Director.

Mr. Nair is not new to the fashion industry and has been an active founding member of the FDCI. He played a critical role in the formation of the Council in 1998 and was appointed Director of FDCI. Subsequently, he was appointed to the position of Executive Director, one that he held for over 2 years.

It was at that time that Sumeet worked closely with leading members in the fraternity to draw up the blueprint for the India Fashion Week that was launched two years later in 2000.

In 2001, he launched the “Business of Fashion” programme nation-wide for the fashion design industry and worked closely on creating business and industry linkages between retailers and fashion houses which were both turning points for the fraternity and changed the way key stakeholders perceived the industry.

These initiatives have been instrumental in changing the landscape of Indian fashion as we see it today. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the Council.

Moving forward, Mrs. Rathi Vinay Jha, Director General and Mr. Sumeet Nair as Executive Director will provide strategic direction to the FDCI and promote the interests of the fashion industry and its members.

Speaking about his new role as Executive Director of FDCI, Sumeet Nair said “I am delighted to be on board as Executive Director to support FDCI's vision, mission and goals for the fashion industry in the years to come."
