Skilled weavers craft magnum opus

Ashgabat has become well-known for its exquisite hand woven carpets and rugs.
Now, however, Argach state joint-stock corporation Turkmenhaly is designing a unique carpet that is expected to be displayed at the museum on the preceding evening of 15th Independence Day on October 27, 2006.
This masterpiece will reflect the history of country and lifestyles over the year with the focus on portraits of 14 celebrated political icons whose extraordinary contributions help built today's Turkmenistan.
The complete framework will cover around 8.4 square meters with 450 thousand knots per one square meter, engaging seven talented weavers.
Spectacular carpet will also flaunt the state flag on the borders and a portrait of current President Saparmurat Niyazov in the centre, surrounded by antiques that emphasize the strength of people.
