US retailer Buckle posts net sales of $108 mn in June 2023

The Buckle, Inc, a leading fashion retailer, has reported a decrease in net sales in June 2023. The net sales for the 5-week fiscal month ended July 1, 2023, decreased by 1.8 per cent, slipping from $110 million to $108 million. Comparable store net sales also declined by 2.4 per cent in June 2023, compared to the same period in the previous year.

The retailer also reported a downturn in comparable store net sales year-to-date for the 22-week period ending on July 1, 2023. This figure showed a decrease of 7.3 per cent, with the net sales for this 22-week fiscal period declining by 6.5 per cent, from $513.4 million to $480.2 million.

Despite the overall downward trend, the company's men's sector experienced a slight increase in total sales for the 5-week fiscal period ending July 1, 2023. These sales rose by 1 per cent compared to the same period in the previous year. Men's merchandise accounted for 59 per cent of total sales for the month, up from 57 per cent last year, with price points increasing by approximately 5 per cent, the company said in a press release.

However, women's sales for the same 5-week period took a downturn, decreasing by 6.5 per cent. Women's merchandise made up about 41 per cent of the total sales, down from 43 per cent in the previous year. The price points in the women's sector saw a modest increase of approximately 1.5 per cent.

In the accessories and footwear categories, the former saw a 5 per cent increase in sales while the latter experienced a 10 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year. The accessory price points showed an increase of 7.5 per cent, and footwear price points rose by 10.0 per cent for the month.

Currently, Buckle operates 440 retail stores across 42 states, a minor decrease from 441 stores in the same number of states as of July 6, 2022.
