Punjab's south western districts (Malwa Belt) have to suffer a lot due to water, as water is not reaching to canal for sowing cotton.

Dr S S Gill, Director of Extension Education, Punjab Agriculture University (PAU) said that the farmers didn't follow appropriate procedure to sow cotton.

However, farmers complained that without water, cotton irrigation is not possible.

In meeting with farmers, Gill reviewed the situation and came to know that district extension specialists of Bathinda and Faridkot have given farmer only 5 to 10 percent area to sow cotton, because of less supply of water for irrigation purpose.

The water used for irrigation, obtain from underground is not appropriate for consumption and harmful to crops.

Specialists were asked about authenticity of report, and they proved the report was perfect as many farmers developed allergies after sowing Bt cotton.

PAU's head of department of soils and other scientists advise farmers not to apply bio-fertiliser to non-leguminous crops as these did not help in the termination of phosphorus.

Various heads of departments, research scientists and directors of PAU regional research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras attended the meeting.

Two Power Point presentations were done for benefits of the farmers, the first presentation was made by Dr S S Kukal talked about irrigation and tensiometer, and the second presentation was done by agro-meteorologist Prabhjyot K Sidhu on climate change and its impact on wheat.
