2nd instalment of Rs142 cr granted to cotton farmers

Second instalment of Rs142.63 crore has been disbursed to cotton growers in Maharashtra with remaining amount to be disbursed during next 10-15 days, informed Harshwardhan Patil, Marketing Minister.
Under monopoly cotton procurement scheme implemented by state government, the accumulated losses have crossed Rs570 crore.
However, this year purchase of cotton under minimum support price scheme, the losses are estimated to be around Rs15 crore, he added.
Maharashtra State Cooperative Cotton Marketing Federation has bought cotton worth Rs340 crore this year, the Minister said.
Organic cotton was being bought between Rs3000 and Rs3200 per quintal, which is around Rs1200 more compared to price paid for normal cotton, he said.
