Cotton production is likely to reach 20,000,000 bales this for the cotton season 2005-2006, provided rains do not play any truant, informed Mr S C Grover, Chairman cum Managing Director, Cotton Corporation of India (CCI).

All this will be achievable, as cotton farmers have adopted modern techniques and scientific approach that will boost production and productivity throughout the country, observed Grover.

Already, the current season's cotton output has reached 24,000,000 bales and cotton farmer are optimistic about bumper crop in 2005-2006.

Some industry insiders even go to the extent of quoting production figure of 27,000,000 bales provided weather gods continue smiling on the Indian cotton farmers.

As far as area covered under cotton, Grover contends it would not exceed 10 million marks, but this would in no way mean production would stagnate.

CCI this year procured 2,800,000 bales, highest in its history of which, 2,750,000 bales were procured under the MSP operations.

On the marketing front, CCI has so far sold 2,000,000 bales and about 15,000 to 20,000 bales are sold every day.

Grover said prior to September 2005, entire CCI stock of 2,800,000 bales would be sold. As far as exports are concerned, a 290,000 bales order has been contracted of which 140,000 bales have been dispatched, while the balance 150,000 bales will be shipped soon.
