Argentina: Drop in cotton imports in first half of 2005

While Brazil topped as largest exporter of cotton to Argentina, the nation's cotton imports during January through June 2005 fell 35.1 percent to 46,894 bales. About 45,975 bales, came from Brazil from this figure.

Meanwhile, cotton exports in this phase zoomed 264 percent to 61,830 bales to destinations like Chile, Brazil, Turkey and Portugal.

Canada: Demand of cotton yarn up in May

Cotton yarn import of Canada touched US $10.61 million mark showing a 26.1 percent rise over last year's figures.

Cotton sales to Canada from United States soared 50.2 percent in May to $5.73 million. India also ended up a major cotton supplier during this period with shipments reaching $9.27 million.

Cotton yarn import for the first half this year endingMay, 2005 rose 16.1 percent to $423.91 million.

Thailand: Domestic demand for cotton yarn up in June

Owing to record domestic demand for cotton fabrics and apparel, cotton yarn exports dropped, as a consequence.

Thailand has an estimated 500,000 spindles making cotton yarns that delivered lesser output due to reduced import demand for cotton yarn as well.

Cotton yarn exports reached 370.6 million Thai baht; this was the second largest monthly export volume of the year and showed a 2.0 percent year-on-year increase.

China, Japan, North Korea, and the United States were top export destinations for cotton yarns from Thailand.
