CRDC hires Ian Taylor, Research Program Manager

Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) announced the appointment of Dr Ian Taylor to the position of Research Program Manager, with specific responsibility for Crop Protection and Farming Systems research programs.

Dr Taylor, who will commence with the CRDC in late-October, was Acting Manager of the Australian Cotton Research Institute in Narrabri, Acting Industry Leader (cotton), and a member of the NSW DPI Program Management Committee.

He has spent 5 years with NSW DPI where he has worked as a research scientist specialising in weed ecology. Dr Taylor's most recent work has included the development of integrated weed management strategies for cotton farming systems and improving the management of summer weeds in dryland cropping systems.

Dr Taylor was a key member of the team that developed WEEDpak, which earned him the Cotton CRC Award for Outstanding Collaboration in 2002 and a contributing author to the Integrated Weed Management course for farm advisors.

Dr Taylor is a graduate of the University of Queensland and a former recipient of the Sir Robert Menzies Scholarship which saw him complete part of his postgraduate studies in Weed Science at the University of Bristol in the UK.

CRDC Executive Director, Bruce Finney, said that Dr Taylor's expertise in applied cotton research will further enhance the capacity of CRDC to invest in research which meets the needs of both industry and government stakeholders.

Mr Finney included that at a time of low world cotton prices and intense global competition, CRDC's investment in crop protection and farming systems R&D will ensure that Australian cotton remains at the cutting edge of production with continued world record breaking yields and superior quality.
