According to Textile Commissioner Office, production of 100-percent cotton yarn in India reached a new record of 213,810 tons in August.
These figures represent a remarkable expansion from the previous monthly record posted in December and a 15.6 percent year-on-year increase.
This growth shows the continued coming on-line of new capacity and a continued increase of cotton's market share in total yarn production. Production of cotton blend yarn reached 52,160 tons in August, which was 1.0 percent year-on-year growth and was the highest since July 2004.
In August, market share gained by 100-percent cotton and cotton blend yarn was 89.4 percent in total yarn output; 71.83 percent market share was gained by 100-percent cotton yarn alone, increased from 68.87 percent a year before.
From April to August, total 100-percent cotton yarn production increased 10.2 percent to 1,027,050 tons, which was a 5.1 percent fall in comparison of cotton blend yarn production and a 4.6 percent fall in non-cotton yarn production.
Local supplies of cotton yarn reached 79 percent of all production in August, which proved the expansion of cotton textile industry. A year before, only 70.3 percent of local yarn production was sold to local mills.
