Chile imported 67,860,000 pairs of shoes in 2008, indicating a year-on-year increase of 5.93 percent, with import value touching US $497 million, an increase of 19.73 percent compared to the same period in 2007.
This was revealed by the Chile Products Footwear Industry Association. From amongst footwear imports in 2008, 80 percent originated from China with the average price of shoes growing by 12.6 percent from the previous year.
The major importing companies from Chile were FORUS with 4.42 million pairs, worth $67 million; BATA 5.85 million pairs, totaling to $52 million and NIKE Chile 2.42 million pairs, reaching $34 million.
