The keyword for denim trends for women this autumn is “clean” and “dark”. Since spring the trend of hard damaged and washed jeans have been fading away. The industry is predicting that many will be switching to the raw denim trend from this autumn.
Although raw denim has been despised due to its hard texture, they are by far the cleanest and darkest indigo denim you can get.
Isetan has been receiving questions from customers about darker denims. Out of their 720 denim pants that they hold, the most popular ones are the one-wash types. Dark denim had only been 5% of their denim sales but is now doubled. This trend has started in the Paris Collection for autumn/winter '06/07.
With volume tops and slim fit bottoms, celebrities overseas began to follow the trend with the skinny jeans. The dark color is to emphasize the slimness. That is where raw denim comes in.
Isetan will be increasing dark denim in their line from autumn to 40%. Raw denim will be a new introduction. They had tested raw denim 6 years ago but were not well received. The texture being rough, the shrinking of the denim by 2 to 5% and the color coming out after wash held back many clients.
But the comfort that comes after wearing the denim for awhile, plus the wrinkles and lines that are created just fit for one's body has been well accepted by men. Now women with high-fashion sense are starting to demand for raw-denim with no stretch. The trend has definitely shifted in these 6 years.
