Nike to stop selling on Amazon

Nike will stop selling its sneakers and athletic gear directly to Amazon, ending a two-year relationship. But Nike goods will still be available on Amazon, sold by third party sellers that list their merchandise on the latter’s website. Nike said it wants to focus on selling its swoosh-branded gear on its own site and apps, which has fuelled a rise in sales.

Nike only sold Amazon a limited amount of styles, and generally not the latest sneakers.

Nike, however, said it will still work with Amazon’s cloud business to power its website and apps, according to global newswires.

Selling sneakers directly to customers reportedly offers Nike information that can help it design shoes in colours or sizes as per demand and choice.

While announcing the pilot program with Amazon in 2017, Nike hoped it would have more control over the brand.

Amazon, which has acknowledged problematic sales of counterfeit goods on the site this year, has introduced new tools to stop that, including a way for brands to remove fake items from the site themselves instead of reporting them to Amazon and waiting for the company to respond.
