Under the initiative of Textile Garment Skill Development Board, Ministry of Textile, 621 trainees have completed their training of two months at 20 selected garment units in Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad.
Around 180 trainees had been enrolled at eight garment units in Karachi, 230 students in Faisalabad and other units were taking fresh trainees. Idrees Ahmed Khan, Textile Commissioner said that it was encouraging to see that garment units in large number were showing keenness in the project.
The programme took off after Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Textile to initiate skill development programme for workers to enhance their skills. After the instruction, Federal Textile Board started the training programme with target of training 20,000 to 22,500 workers a year.
