FIT hires Alan Kane, Dean of the School Of Business And Technology

New York City based Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) announced that Alan Kane has been appointed as the Dean of the School of Business and Technology. He is currently professor of retailing at Columbia University's Graduate School of Business.
Dean Kane founded the retailing program at Columbia in 1997 following a 28-year career in the retail industry. He began his career in 1966 as an associate buyer at Federated Department Stores and rose to the post of divisional merchandise manager in 1970.
In 1979, he was named president and CEO of the Hahnes Department Store, which became a division of the May Company. From 1991-1993, he was president and CEO of Pergament Home Centers, a chain of 34 stores. From 1993-1994, he was president and CEO of Grossman's Eastern Division, a building materials retailer with 107 stores in the Northeast.
Dr. Joyce F. Brown, President of FIT said that Dean Kane's impressive career has earned him the retail industry's respect and recognition. Their students will greatly benefit from his vast knowledge and experience.
In his new position, Dean Kane is responsible for the leadership of nine associate and baccalaureate degree programs within the school. Reporting to the president, he spearheads the effort to develop school curricula and fundraising efforts, directs the budgetary process, and provides leadership and effective management in allocating resources and recruiting, developing, promoting, and retaining faculty.
