Flooding of poor and cheap fabrics from Asian markets has severely affected the local fabrics and has resulted in decrease of number of textile units in the country, alleged Ralph Ihedioha, President of National Textile Exporters Association (NTEA).

Ihedioha informed that Nigeria had 250 flourishing textile units eight years ago which has become 30 now and among those two are on the verge of collapse.

He listed out other problems like rising cost of production and insufficient supply of inputs such as cotton but at the same time lauded Government effort to deal with these issues through fiscal policies.

Ihedioha was critical of the Government for not giving attention to the textile market and appealed people to consciously make an effort to use Nigerian made fabrics.

For this purpose, he joined the chorus to put on Nigerian fabric on October, 01 which is the 46th Independence anniversary of the nation and stated that it was the flashpoint of the Nigerian Textiles Attire Day organized by them.
