The economic situation is showing noticeable signs of a possible upturn; but Vito Artioli, the new President of the Italian Footwear Manufacturers' Association ANCI, is emphasising concern with the medium-term outlook.

Today's economic situation itself promises a change of circumstances, and conditions that are not so unfair as those of the recent past; Italian companies, though continuing to suffer the fallout from a long-standing crisis, are undoubtedly tackling the international market with greater vigour.
Moreover, as we find in the Briefing prepared by the ANCI Research Office: “after 2006 with its emergency measures, our investigations in the first quarter of 2007 had already begun to reveal some initial signs of comfort in the outlook for the footwear industry."
