De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester is one of two UK Universities to be invited to YODEX in Taiwan, one of the largest design fairs of its kind.

This builds on DMU's strong track record and award-winning reputation where many of its design students and graduates continue to 'wow' industry experts year after year.

Internationally renowned celebrities are also recognising DMU graduates' work, including music superstar Lady Gaga who recently wore lingerie designed by Leanne Brooke in her new Born This Way video.

Leanne, who graduated DMU's BA (Hons) Fashion and Contour Design course in 2009, created the leather bra under her luxury leather brand, Obey My Demand (OMD).

Leanne is rapidly becoming an established bodywear designer for the music industry and last year founded OMD, which has already attracted a celebrity following.

DMU is one of only two institutions in the world to offer a degree in contour fashion, with many of its students winning high profile competitions in the international arena and getting the opportunity to exhibit their work at well-known venues worldwide.

Earlier this year, a corset designed by DMU student Emma Walters won the UK final of the Triumph Inspiration Awards (TIA) and will now go on to compete in the global final in Germany.

For the fourth consecutive year Triumph International, one of the world's leading lingerie and shapewear brands, invited students from the UK's top fashion and contour design schools to take part in this prestigious design contest.

Of the initial 92 entrants, Emma will now go on to represent the UK at the global final during Berlin Fashion Week along with 36 other international finalists.

Meanwhile, design students across the university continue to excel. Fashion design student Laura Carew-Gibson won £1,000 and a prestigious internship with top designer David Koma after her 'Club Tropicana' designs hit the catwalk at London Fashion Week; design crafts students Jodie Hatcher, Gillian Tidgwell, Chiara Bet, Jennifer Ricketts and Cathy Sutherland won £200 bursaries at the Goldsmith's Precious Metal Bursary Awards 2011; the Dawsons Home Group also sponsored a competition for DMU's final-year BA (Hons) Textile Design and BA (Hons) Fashion Fabrics & Accessories students to produce Horrockses-inspired textiles. The winning students – Alice Leahy, Jess Carberry and Stephanie Holman – all earned placements in the company's design studio to work on the new range.

DMU's strong links with industry and commercially focused courses create highly employable design graduates who go on to work at companies including Audi, Sega, Reebok and Kurt Geiger to name but a few.

YODEX 2011, which will be held at the Taipei World Trade Centre from Friday 20 to Monday 23 May, will see an exciting mix of upcoming young designers and established manufacturers exhibiting their work.

DMU representatives will be in the Overseas Design Colleges area offering information on studying at the university.
