Tandy Leather Factory May sales up 17%

Leather manufacturer Tandy Leather Factory Inc has reported that sales for the month of May were $4.5 million, an increase of 17 percent from $3.9 million last year.
Year to date sales are up 13 percent to $23.3 million in the current year from $20.7 million last year.
Retail Leathercraft posted a 37 percent sales increase for May, with sales totaling $1.7 million compared to $1.3 million in May 2005. The 44 comparable stores posted a 15 percent same store sales gain for the month. The 14 stores opened since April 2005 added May sales of $275,000.
Year-to-date sales for Retail Leathercraft are $9.0 million this year, a 29 percent increase over sales of $6.9 million for the same period of 2005. As of the end of May, the same store sales gain for the 42 comparable stores is 10 percent for the year.
Wholesale Leathercraft posted sales of $2.6 million for May. Within the Wholesale Leathercraft division, the comparable wholesale centers' sales were $2.2 million for May, up 9 percent from May 2005 sales of $2.0 million.
The National Account group posted a May sales gain of 4 percent. For the year to date, Wholesale Leathercraft sales are $13.5 million compared to $12.9 million in 2005, an increase of 5 percent.
Chairman and CEO, Wray Thompson, said, "May sales rebounded nicely after a rather lackluster April. We made up April's one less sales day this month, which pushes approximately 4 percent of sales between the two months on a consolidated basis. Eliminating that impact from our May sales still results in a 13 percent gain for the month and we are certainly pleased with that."
Tandy Leather Factory Inc, headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, is a specialty retailer and wholesale distributor of a broad product line including leather, leatherworking tools, belt buckles and adornments, leather dyes and finishes, saddle and tack hardware, and do-it-yourself kits.
