World Group will be joining forces with 4 fashion technical colleges in educating the young prospective members of the industry in sales and services. This new curriculum will be under the title of “store management” and will start from 2007.
Each school will implement this course as one new major or will include the topic under fashion business courses, but the details and the curriculum will be the same for all 4 schools. The course will be for 3 years and will include in-class lessons as well as in-store trainings at World Groups stores.
This program allows students on the job training but at the same time gives World Group an advantage of being able to attract new recruits through getting to know the companies before the students start looking for jobs.
World Group also hopes that this will be a chance to bring up the image of sales jobs, which has always been an obstacle the industry has had to clear for a long time.
Sales jobs are not one of the jobs every student dreams of getting after graduation. Still, Japan had experienced a social phenomenon where sales assistant had become a job girls looked up to. The start of such phenomenon was the notorious shopping building 109.
Magazines started taking up the fashion the building holds but at the same time started to take up the sales girls in the stores as fashion icon. The girls gradually came to be known as Charismatic Sales Girls, and at the top of this boom was Yoco Morimoto.
