Just like every other country, magazines and stores fully expose their swim suit line ups for summer. In Japan, swimsuits start lining up around June, and every magazine features some sort of special features on swimsuits in their June issues. There is always the traditional swimsuit fashion shows, and every girl buys their swimsuit for the year.
But another trend that Japan has for summer comes the following month. The Yukata. This is featured as large as the swimsuits are as July magazine issues always have a feature on Yukata's.
For swimsuits, ribbons, frills, and volume had been the key trends for summer 2006. New comers like Brazilian swimsuits have joined the scene as well through opening a store corner in Parco and different brands come up with their own original swimsuit line ups.
Going to the beach is a traditional summer event in Japan, and since it is a once in a year event, the girls are very intent on looking the best. Some magazines go far by featuring male commentators commenting on which swimsuits they prefer.
Yukata is the Kimono for the summer. The material is much thinner and the over all composition much more simple. They have a version for the men and women, but for women to wear a Yukata is a tradition that has been lasting continuously. Every year, different brands come up with their original Yukata prints and dyes just as they do with swimsuits. Even Jean Paul Gaultier had a licensed Yukata line.
These outfits are worn at the Japanese summer festivals and at fire work events. The deep neckline in the back with the hair pulled up is where true Japanese beauty is said to exist.
