Festival gets fashion right way up

Nicole Kidman, Kylie Minogue, Elle McPherson, sass and bide, Natalie Imbruglia, Gemma Ward, Megan Gale – what do all these stylish and beautiful women have in common?

They all hail from Australia, where fashion is embraced and celebrated. With a fresh and unhistoric approach to fashion design, it is altogether appropriate that Australia's most fashion savvy city, Melbourne, plays host to a unique fashion event.

Celebrating its eleventh year and attracting major sponsors from L'Oréal Paris through to MINI and Tiffany & Co., the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival is the largest consumer fashion event in the world and has become one of the most highly respected events on the international fashion calendar. Last year more than 190,000 people attended more than 100 official fashion events during the Festival week.

Unlike European and American fashion events, the annual Festival event (4-10 March in 2007) has a strong public focus and gives the person on the street the opportunity to experience a high-end runway show. L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Director, Karen Webster says that the Festival is all about taking fashion to the people and celebrating it in the broadest sense.

“The Festival steps beyond the boundaries of the catwalk to offer an incredible array of public and industry events as well as a concurrent program of cultural events that explore fashion, design, art and education. The Festival's multi-tiered approach ensures that all levels of the fashion industry are supported and all markets are catered for.”
