Outerwear retailer Wilsons Leather 4-week sales jump 6%, July

Minneapolis based Full range of leather outerwear, accessories and apparel retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc reported the sales for the four weeks ended July 30, 2005 increased 6.0% to $19.5 million as compared to $18.4 million for the four weeks ended July 31, 2004.
Year-to-date sales decreased 6.8% to $142.7 million compared to $153.1 million for the same period last year. Sales for the prior year-to-date period included approximately $20.8 million in liquidation sales resulting from the transfer of inventory to an independent liquidator.
Comparable store sales increased 8.7% for the four weeks ended July 30, 2005; this increase compares to a 21.1% increase in comparable store sales for the four weeks ended July 31, 2004. Year-to-date comparable store sales increased 12.8% compared to an increase of 3.1% in the same period last year.
Comparable store sales for the prior year-to-date period do not include sales from stores that were liquidated.
"Commenting on these results, Michael Searles, Chief Executive Officer, said, "They anticipated that July would present difficult comparable store sales comparisons and they are pleased with their increase of 8.7% in comparable store sales."
Mr. Searles continued, "While July marks their sixth consecutive month of positive comparable store sales, they continue to concentrate on the execution of their strategies to ensure successful third and fourth quarters."
