SinGem launches 3-year jewelry study degree course

The Indian jewellery school SinGem, has introduced a three-year degree programme in jewellery studies which will initially be offered from five centers in Calcutta.

SinGem's research team has prepared the course curriculum for UGC recognized degree to be awarded in collaboration with Punjab Technical University.

In first year intake will be restricted to 180 students in 5 centers - Bhawanipore, Salt Lake, Shova Bazar, Howrah and New Alipore.

The course is scheduled to commence from June 2007 but application procedures would commence from February 15.

The three-year, 12-semesters degree programme will be a 3 month semester with graduation course of 3 years.

The classes would be conducted for three hours per day with three days per week. Students appearing or passed 12th will be eligible for this course with no entrance examination.

The program provides intensive training in 54 modules, covering diverse technical streams including, jewellery manufacturing, diamond, gemology, fashion jewellery and accessories, gem studding, among others. The business training segment (9 modules) would provide training in advertising, international trade, marketing, brand management, finance, etc.

The education programme would be 90 percent practical, with industry interface, workshop visit and internship programmes in third and final years.

SinGem's jewelry manpower division would place students in a campus interview through its online recruitment portal www.jewelry jobsonline.com.
