Online retailer Saks Incorporated announced it will close its 113,000 square foot Parisian store located in the Montgomery Mall in Montgomery, Alabama in early March 2006.
Toni Browning, President and Chief Executive Officer of Parisian, commented, 'Store closing decisions are always difficult ones to make, but they believe this action is in the best interests of both their Company and their customers.
They continue to focus their resources on their most productive and profitable stores.
Montgomery remains an important market for Parisian, and they believe they can continue to serve their many loyal area customers with their larger, 130,000 square foot Eastdale Mall location.
They now will be able to focus more resources on their Eastdale Mall store so that they can further enhance their merchandise and service offerings there.'
Parisian employs approximately 90 associates in the Montgomery Mall store.
These associates either will be offered transfer opportunities to the Eastdale Mall Parisian store or will receive appropriate severance packages.
Browning added, 'They are extremely thankful for the great team of associates in this store, many of whom are long-standing Parisian employees.'
The Company owns the Parisian Montgomery Mall store and has not determined plans for the location following closing.
Saks Incorporated operates its Saks Department Store Group (SDSG) with 40 Parisian stores; 142 Younkers, Herberger's, Carson Pirie Scott, Bergner's, and Boston Store stores (collectively known as the Northern Department Store Group or 'NDSG'); and 58 Club Libby Lu specialty stores.
